The Kund slates are one of the best quality slates
available in the country. Grey and black colour slates are
exposed in Kund and Behali whereas black to multicolour
slates are found in other deposits.
The slate is finely granular and crystalline and characterized
by well developed rock cleavage. Practically inexhaustible
deposits of quartzites are found in the State distributed
within the narrow, widely isolated strike ridges of the
district - Faridabad, Gurgaon, Rewari, Mahendragarh and
Bhiwani. Quartzite from Haryana in general are fairly hard,
compact, grey to greyish white, brownish pink or pinkish
white and dirty white in colour and are well jointed. The
common varieties of quartzites are pure, massive, calcareous
and ferrugenous. These are fine to medium grained but coarse
grained are not uncommon.
